Neon AIR: Radiant Residents

An Opening Reception and Curator’s Talk will be held on Thursday, May 31 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm at the Nevada Humanities Program Gallery, featuring a curator’s talk by Cynthia Behr Warso, who is Director of Education and Engagement at the Neon Museum in Las Vegas, at 7:00 pmThis event is open to the public and free of charge. 

An Artist Reception and Talk will be held on Thursday, July 5 from 6:00- 9:00 pm at the Nevada Humanities Program Gallery, featuring artist resident Karl Orozco. His artist’s talk will begin at 7:00 pm and will include a special engagement project. This event is open to the public and free of charge. 

Karl will bring in a small game table and “The Maynilla Set” which are a unique set of mahjong tiles he has designed. He will share the background to the tile imagery and also give a short introduction to the game. Participants can then play a game of Mahjong for approx. 20 minutes. Prior knowledge of the game is not necessary, but those who know how to play may choose to assist those who are learning.

The Neon AIR: Radiant Residents exhibition displays artwork by inaugural artist Whitney Lynn, 2017 Artist in Residence Allison Wiese, and 2018 Artist in Residence Karl Orozco whose residency takes place July 2 through August 25. The Neon Museum’s National Artist Residency program provides access to the Neon Museum boneyard and archives plus accommodation in historic downtown Las Vegas to provide full immersion in the heart of iconic architecture and neon signage. This exhibit runs through July 26.
